This condition is characterized by the premature closure of one cranial suture, causing a characteristic change in skull shape. Unisuture craniosynostosis is most often the only congenital disorder and is thus referred to as isolated. Particularly in unicoronal synostosis, one should be aware of the possibility of dealing with a syndromic form of craniosynostosis, particularly Muenke syndrome.
