Patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 can develop hydrocephalus that requires treatment. One option for treatment is endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV). This paper present the result of that treatment in 42 patients. ETV failed in 6 patients within 1 months, in 3 patients within 9 months, and in 1 patient within 4 years. ETV was successful in 32 patients with a mean follow-up period of 59 months (ranging from 4 months to 15 years). Conclusion: ETV is a safe treatment for selected patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 and obstructive hydrocephalus.
