Clefts of the lip and palate are a heterogeneous group of craniofacial disorders affecting the lips, oral cavity and teeth. For orofacial clefts; the provision of care is via a multidisciplinary Network - referred to as a Managed Clinical Network (MCN) and in Scotland this is known as Cleft Care Scotland (CCS). The primary surgery is commissioned by the National Services Division (NSD) of the Scottish Government; and the other aspects of multidisciplinary care are provided by clinicians and other personnel in individual healthboards. Healthcare personnel at the University of Dundee and NHS Tayside are involved in the orthodontic treatment of patients born with cleft lip and palate disorders; and for disorders where the cleft condition is described as syndromic or as a multiple malformed child with or without diagnosis our clinical geneticists will be asked to assist.
