Open afternoon: speech, communication and resilience training programme

Posted on 25 May 2022

On 9th June 2022 (14h30- 17h00), an informative afternoon on speech, communication and resilience for cleft lip and palate will take place at Amsterdam University Medical Centre.

The course has been developed with partners from 9 countries is and coordinated by the European Cleft Organisation (ECO)(https://europeancleft.org). The open afternoon will provide an overview of the course and we will also run through one of the training modules on resilience.  The course has brought together experts in speech and language therapy and psychology to produce material that can be used to train non-specialists in aspects of communciation and resilience.  It will enable non specialists to help parents identify signs of impairments and offer practical ways of supporting their child who may be experiencing speech and language difficulties and/or psychological challenges associated with having a cleft. More details can be found on the project website http://www.scr4cleft.org/

Who is this open day for?

Anyone who has an interest in cleft care - especially in relation to communication.  The material is aimed at non-specialists and will be of interest to those who may be supporting cleft teams beyond western Europe who may not have resources to include speech and language therapy and psychology in their cleft team.

Entrance is free.

Interested?

Places will be limited and if you would like to attend please email Gareth Davies at davieszak@gmail.com giving your details (name, hospital, speciality (incl student) by Friday 3 June.  Whilst this is aimed primarily at attendees from the Netherlands, they do have some limited funds that could help towards the costs of anyone traveling from another country.
